General Law City sex offender regulations

October 5, 2012

This doesn’t apply to our city as we’re not a General Law city. Here’s the jist of the matter though. General law cities have been making rules about sex offenders. Technically, they’re not explicitly authorized to do so. Some General Law cities want to see legislation that would clarify that point. Those that have already taken the initiative fear that the clarification would remove from them the power they’ve already aggregated to themselves.

Which ones’ best? Hard to say isn’t it. Yet another case where the State has gotten in the way of the ability of cities to govern as they deem appropriate.
