Watauga Candidate Forum – Ricky Knight, running for Place 5

May 6, 2013

Mr. Knight

Moderator: Where do you see the city in the next 5 years:

more businesses in the city; whitley and starnes; upgraded police force; we need to pay police more money. Takes a lot of money to train them. They stay 2 years and leave. Police protect you. You want the best that you can get.

Closing statement: open door policy. Please vote. Get in the habit of voting.

[My comments. This guy is a complete idiot too. A classic big government wank. More businesses in the City? The City is 96% built out. Which magic wand is he going to wave to do this? Police don’t need more money. The VAST majority of the officers that we had depart the Watauga PD left because they retired after over 2o years on the force. Hmmm. Sounds like he might need an education. “Police protect you. You want the best that you can get.” There it is, the ultimate bowing down to the government to run your life, protect your person and your property and take care of all of those things that a once-free people find so inconvenient that they must transfer the ability to control them to the government. This guy is a stupid ass too. If you vote for this guy, I suspect you’ll live to regret it. ]

I attended Gary Johnson’s “town hall” a month or so ago, and Mr. Knight was one of his picks, so to speak. He was the only one of the 3 about whom I got an uneasy feeling right away. (At least, I think he was one of Gary’s picks. He was one of the 3 he had there to speak and pass out literature that night.)

Knight was far too in love with “law enforcement”, and, when asked whether he’d stand up against gun confiscation, he gave one of those milk-toast “I support the 2nd Amendment” answers. (Hasn’t every middle-of-the-road Republican said the same before compromising away more and more of our liberties?) He won’t be receiving my vote, much less the support Gary was hoping we’d all throw behind him as precinct chairs in Watauga — an action I’m not sure is all that ethical anyway.

Thank you for reading and for commenting.

I haven’t been able to attend anything where I’ve really heard him talk about his policy desires except this Candidate Forum. It’s getting more and more easy for me to spot these pro-government suppliants. The big point I’ve been trying to drive home about our Police Department is how much it costs relative to the value that it provides. I’ve got a lot more coming on that, but it needs to wait until I’m off Council.

I will say this, that there was an effort to get City Council to appoint members to replace themselves on the Crime Control and Prevention Board, but two of the members failed to turn in a submission. If we’re going to have such a Board, it should be comprised of residents, not the City Council. There is a contingent of our populace who will gladly sacrifice the freedom and funds of thier neighbors so that they can feel better about the level of policing in our City. I find this group to be disgusting and revolting. I’m hoping to push the issue shortly.

      Thank you for your comments.

You’re welcome, of course, Russell, and thank *you* for responding, as well. I am familiar with the attempt to appoint replacements to the CCPD board, but was unaware that the efforts failed due to 2 appointees’ failure to submit their paperwork. What a shame!

My family and I are considering moving out of Watauga and leaving those who accept its corruption and tyranny to bask in it. I look forward learning what you cannot now openly share once you’re no longer on the council, but the city will be worse off for losing you there.

If I had the funds, I’d have left long ago. My time on City Council has just served to reinforce that this nation, this state, this city have turned their backs on the foundational truths that God has delivered to us through His word that our Founding Fathers worked so hard to enshrine in our Federal government. Being a student of history, I can say without a moment’s hesitation where these efforts will end up and what it will take to get them out. It will be the same thing that Mussolini got even though he “made the trains run on time”. This grand search for order as described by some leftist freak will demolish freedom until freedom will not be held captive anymore. Just as WW2-era America was willing to send it’s best and brightest, it’s blood and treasure to annihilate these fascists, I expect there will yet be a modern set of Americans that will do the same against these domestic fascists. Once unleashed, the hounds of hell are a terrible thing, but not so terrible as the rule of the Godless.
I hope you will find your way out of Watauga and to a place which still respects property rights and understands the principles of limited government. May God richly bless you.
