Ann Coulter is a single issue voter now – blinders prevent full view of reality

April 22, 2014

That’s a link to her most recent column. I’m fairly disappointed in Ann. I’ve read a lot of what she’s written over the years. Much of it has been a welcome dose of reality. I read this article with a fair bit of interest. It’s actually been several months since I’ve read anything by her. I tend to run out of time to read things and even when I’m blogging, I try to limit myself to one article a day so it doesn’t get to be so much that someone would just start to tune me out.

“Anyone opposing an incumbent Republican for any reason other than amnesty is a fraud or an idiot. Right now, immigration and Obamacare are the only things that matter. Since every Republican voted against Obamacare, that leaves only immigration.”

Debt will destroy this country faster than illegal immigration. Unrestrained Judicial activism is destroying this country faster than immigration. Congressional abdication of authority to the Executive branch will destroy this country faster than immigration.

I would agree that immigration is a significant issue, but I might argue that the bigger issue underlying the “illegal immigration” issue is the “failure to assimilate” issue. Immigration wasn’t a problem in the past. Why not? Immigrants learned English. They educated their children to speak English, they participated in the job market, they got involved in their world, sent their kids to get an education, taught them to be hard workers. All of these factors contributed to the growth and welfare of America. We couldn’t have this country without them.

Frankly, were it not for immigrants, our country might already be gone. Do some research into demographic trends for America. It’s pretty chilling. Watch the movies Demographic Bomb and Demographic Winter.  That’s our reality.  We’re imploding more slowly than Europe, but we’re on the same train, riding the same tracks.

So, what is the answer to the non-assimilation issue?  I’m not sure I know.  I think part of it is going to be returning to God and moral values, issues that can be universally appealing because of their firm foundation in reality.  Ethnic pimpery needs to be curtailed, but how will that happen?  Returning education to be self-funded rather than “community-funded” or socialist would be a great first step.  Getting churches to step up and actually address cultural, political and moral issues would be another first step.

I think until we can answer the question: “Why don’t they want to be Americans?” we’ll never truly have an answer to illegal immigration.

In many cases, I think the future of America will be determined by the immigrants.  When they come here, they can see the differences first hand between where they came from and what they have here.  In most cases I’ve heard, first-generation immigrants LOVE this country and want to see its ideas and freedoms flourish.  What happens that they lose this love?

Immigrants, especially illegal ones, may be the ones to throw off the burdens of government more quickly than us “born and bred” Americans.  Several years ago, when the Supreme Court allowed the environmental weenies to turn off water to California’s farmland to save the Delta Smelt, I thought it would be the immigrants that rushed the dams and forced them to open the water flow.  I was sadly disappointed.

That being said, I’ve got more confidence in someone that would leave their own nation, break the laws of a new nation all to provide a better standard of living for their family.  That’s the kind of lawlessness that built America.  I expect it may be a significant part of our redemption.
